The Farmington City Council on Oct. 6 voted to accept a $1,000 donation from Highview Christiania Lutheran Church to support the Farmington Police Department's canine program.
Pastor Amy Johnson of Highview Christiania Lutheran Church presented the donation and said the funds came from the church's annual community corn feed. "We are incredibly honored to present a thousand dollar check to the Farmington Police Department's canine program in support of the important work that they do in this community," Johnson said.
City staff said the donation will be deposited in the city's general fund and used for canine expenses such as food, boarding when handlers are away and veterinary services. Chief (Farmington Police Department) noted the department's appreciation and the council removed the item from the consent agenda so the church representatives could be recognized in person.
Action taken: Councilmember Jake moved to accept the donation and Councilmember Holly seconded. The motion passed on a roll call vote recorded as: "Council member Lean: yes; Council member Nance: yes; Council member Cortis: yes; Council member Wilson: yes; Mayor White: yes." The acceptance was recorded as agenda item "2025 tax 069" in the meeting record.
Details: Staff asked that the contribution be deposited in the general fund and applied to K‑9 program costs. Church representatives said proceeds came from their annual community corn feed and thanked officers who participated in the event.
Next steps: The donation will be processed by city finance and used for routine K‑9 expenses. Council offered public thanks to the church's congregation.
