Adam told the commission that, historically, the Police and Fire associations have hosted the trunk-or-treat event at Memorial Park for the last four to five years. This year those associations asked Parks and Recreation to coordinate the event because of staffing constraints; Parks and Rec staff will host the event and the associations will sponsor it and provide candy donations collected from local grocery stores.
Staff said the event will include volunteer-run car-trunk stations handing out candy, snack vendors, and a simultaneous movie night using the city’s outdoor screen; the movie planned for the event is Hocus Pocus 2. Staff asked commissioners to consider volunteering or attending to support traffic flow and distribution. The city collects candy donations in advance and the sponsors supplement participating trunks to help the event last through the night.
The commission received the informational update; no formal vote was taken.
