Kingsburg commission reviews progress on parks master plan after public workshop

Adam, a city staff presenter, told the Kingsburg Community Service Commission that Fresno State students and faculty collected input for an updated parks master plan after a public workshop and an online survey that drew more than 600 responses.

The commission’s workshop with the public occurred in September and was intended to gather resident direction for updating the plan, which the staff said was last completed in 2002. Adam said the next step is for Fresno State to draft a parks master-plan proposal for the commission to review and give direction on before staff brings a version to Kingsburg City Council. He said staff had hoped to have a draft for this meeting and present to council in November but that the volume of responses has extended the timeline; if necessary, staff would present in December.

Adam said the draft will combine in-person workshop findings with summer survey data and that Fresno State’s team, including Dr. Brandon Taylor, had met with city staff to go over preliminary information. He said a second public workshop was not considered necessary given the high survey response, but staff intends to circulate preliminary drafts to the public for review and additional input before going to council.

The commission did not take formal action on the plan at the meeting; Adam asked commissioners for feedback from those who attended the workshop and opened the item for discussion.

Looking ahead, staff will await the draft from Fresno State, share it with the commission for direction, then prepare to bring the recommended plan to council, with a target presentation in November or December depending on the timing of the draft.
