Board adopts resolution supporting Red Ribbon Week, Partnership for Awareness outlines activities

The San Marino Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on Oct. 14 to adopt Resolution No. 6 in support of National Red Ribbon Week, an annual drug-prevention awareness campaign.
Dr. Lena Richter introduced the resolution and recommended board approval. After a motion and second, the board recorded unanimous ayes from members present. The adopted resolution supports Red Ribbon Week activities scheduled the week of Oct. 23–31, 2025, whose theme staff presented as “Life is a puzzle — solve it drug free.”
Marissa Kelly, Partnership for Awareness president and San Marino Unified PTA Council president, described planned activities across campuses. She said Carver will hold themed dress-up days and provide puzzle key chains and novelty items; Valentine will stage yoga, meditation and mindfulness activities, student pledges and assemblies; Huntington Middle School plans its activities the following week; and San Marino High School is organizing spirit and incentive events including raffles and a police-department visit. Kelly also said PFA funds wellness-center grants, an anti-bias essay contest and scholarships. She noted a public program on Oct. 30 featuring UCLA researcher Dr. Timothy Fong to discuss cannabis research and community guidance.
The board did not modify the resolution and took the item as presented.
