Council creates seasonal museum assistant position and updates master salary schedule

The Oroville City Council on Oct. 21 approved a personnel reallocation to create a seasonal museum assistant position and adopted an updated master salary schedule to add the city-engineer classification and the part-time museum assistant range.
Staff explained the museum curator, Vanessa, has been performing curatorial work but also spending substantial time managing volunteers and events. To sustain operations and allow the curator to focus on museum duties, staff proposed reallocating an existing 0.7 FTE seasonal position budgeted in the parks and trees division to a seasonal museum assistant. The position would use the same pay range as the existing seasonal slot and requires no additional funding; parks staff confirmed they do not plan to fill the existing authorized position.
Council also adopted a revised master salary schedule to formally add the city engineer/assistant director of public works pay range and to include the seasonal museum assistant range. The city engineer slot had previously been authorized and is now formally added to the salary schedule, consistent with hiring practices.
Both actions passed unanimously. Council asked staff to move forward with recruiting and to coordinate benefits and scheduling for the seasonal assistant position.
