City staff announced at the Oct. 21 meeting that Oroville has received official award notifications for federal grant funding to purchase fire apparatus and equipment.
During the department reports, city and fire officials recognized Amy Bergstrand, business assistance and housing development director, for her role securing grant funding. Staff said the city received an award letter for the 2024 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $3,600,000 that will purchase a ladder truck, a fire engine, additional fire equipment and fund a drainage study for South Oroville. Earlier in the meeting the fire department speaker referenced $3,100,000 as a funding figure related to a second new fire engine and ladder truck; staff read a plaque recognizing Amy’s role securing “over $3,100,000 in grant funding.” Both figures were mentioned in the meeting record.
The council presented a plaque to Amy Bergstrand in recognition of her work. Officials said procurement and equipment specification work will follow and that the city will provide further updates once procurement steps are finalized.
No council action was required for the announcement; staff said the award letter arrived and that future agenda items will address the public hearing and procurement steps required to spend the grant funds.
