Commission approves amendment to intergovernmental agreement with HealthChoice of Michigan

The Wayne County Health and Human Services Committee approved Amendment 1 to a two-year intergovernmental agreement with HealthChoice of Michigan to provide administrative and management support that helps HealthChoice meet its obligations as a municipal health facilities corporation.
Chris Johnson, division director for access to care and executive director for HealthChoice of Michigan, told commissioners the amendment adjusts the amount HealthChoice reimburses the county for staff time, facility use and other chargebacks.
“What this is is an amendment. We're just changing the amount of money that HealthChoice is paying back to the county for the use of staff, the use of the facility, and other chargebacks,” Johnson said.
Commissioners asked for a future briefing on how potential changes to Medicaid could affect enrollment in the HealthChoice program. Johnson said that if Medicaid were to reduce eligibility or benefits, the county would likely see an increase in enrollment in the HealthChoice program because many participants fluctuate between employer coverage and Medicaid.
Action taken
A motion to approve the amendment was made and seconded; Commissioner Moragie provided the support and commissioners voted by electronic tablet. The motion carried; the transcript does not record individual roll-call tallies.
