The East Grand Rapids City Commission approved four motions and related contracts during the meeting.
- Deferred-compensation plan: The commission voted to add a Roth contribution option to the city employees' 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, giving staff another post-tax savings option. Finance Director Sharla Seath told the commission the option costs the city nothing and allows higher contribution limits than a Roth IRA.
- Remington Park sidewalks: The commission approved a contract with AJZ Concrete to install sidewalks around Remington Park for a price not to exceed $11,000. City staff said the work addresses drainage and accessibility improvements for field renovations done jointly with East Grand Rapids Public Schools; the cost will be shared 50/50 with the schools.
- Lake management services: The commission approved awarding a multi-year contract for lake-management services for Reeds Lake covering 2026-2030 with an annual average cost range of $27,400 to $34,800 depending on treatment cycles. Staff said vendor PLM has worked with the lake on invasive-species treatment and that periodic full-lake treatments account for cost fluctuations.
- Gaslight Village streetscape lighting: The commission awarded a contract for tree/street seasonal lighting in Gaslight Village to a local contractor for $12,188. Staff said the item was budgeted and similar to prior-year contracts that provide holiday/streetscape lighting for downtown.
Each motion passed by voice vote; recorded roll-call tallies were not specified in the meeting minutes. The items were introduced by staff, and commissioners voted to approve each contract in the consent/regular agenda.
Ending: These contract awards were approved as budgeted items or cost-shared agreements. More substantive policy items (poverty-exemption changes, micro-mobility) were discussed separately and will return to the commission for further action.
