MassDEP policy pipeline: soils policy, engineered barriers and exams update

Ken Morrow, director of policy and program development, said several policies are nearing completion. He listed engineered barriers and SAMs as returning from public comment on Oct. 24 and said the long-discussed soils policy has completed final revisions and awaits approval from senior leadership.
Morrow also said that most CAM protocols have been updated and that staff added a CAM for Method 533. He identified ongoing internal debate over an EPAM operating regimen and said updates to vapor intrusion guidance and risk characterization chapters remain in progress.
Matt Line reported on board activity: the board held a meeting this past Tuesday; the board administered an LSP exam last month that minted five new LSPs, and an exam with 17 scheduled examinees will be offered next week in Worcester.
Why it matters: Finalized policies and updated protocols will shape field sampling, reporting and cleanup standards across sites regulated by MassDEP. New LSPs expand the number of licensed site professionals available for work in the Commonwealth.
