Lacey Museum announces private guided tours ahead of public opening; registration to start in early November

City staff told the Lacey Historical Commission that the relocated Lacey Museum is preparing a limited series of private guided tours in December ahead of its public opening and that public registration for those tours will open the first week of November.
Jen Burbage, director of Parks, Culture and Recreation, said staff have been preparing the new museum site and that staff "was excited to let you know that starting in December, museum staff is gonna be offering free private guided tours for those interested in getting a firsthand look at the space before it's officially open to the public." She added the tours will be groups of up to eight guests in one-hour time slots, with a 30- to 45-minute guided tour followed by independent browsing and a chance to ask museum staff questions.
Burbage said the Historical Commission will be scheduled for one of the first tours and that registration for public tours will open the first week of November; staff plans a media push once registration opens. "Space is going to be limited, and so we'll be sure to let the public know to reserve their spaces, once registration opens," she said.
Staff said exhibit panels and wall graphics have arrived, which made the opening work feel "real for the first time." The commission also heard that the museum's research center will be housed at the Russell House (the former museum location), but staff said there was not yet a detailed update on the Russell House research-center schedule as staff concentrated on completing the museum move.
The museum's initial public-tour registration will be limited; staff said they will notify the commission before public registration opens and will schedule a commission tour in the first round of previews.
No formal commission action was required at the meeting; staff asked commissioners to watch for the registration announcement and offered details about tour size and scheduling so commissioners could help spread the word to interested residents and stakeholders.
