Board approves donations, insurance rates and calls special election for bonds

The Chisago Lakes School District school board approved several routine and business items by motion and vote, including donations, insurance rates and a resolution to call a special election to consider general obligation bonds.

The board accepted consent items that included personnel actions and a coaching contract. Trustees then voted to accept several donations: Jean Huss Foundation — $4,000 for community education robotics; American Legion — $1,500 for school supplies; TF Parents for Education — $12.50 for playground swing mats; scholarships in memory of Herb Janger — $4,400; and CLPTO — $9,300 for Lakeside. A roll-call vote was recorded as "I" by trustees identified as Sarah, Jen, Jenna and Lori and the chair thanked donors for community generosity; the motion passed.

Trustees approved the district’s annual Minnesota State High School League participation form by voice vote. "The motion passes," the chair said after the vote.

An insurance representative, Court Becker (insurance consultant), briefed the board on rates and claims. Board members heard that the district had a rate cap under its current plan and that staying with Blue Cross Blue Shield had helped avoid a larger increase. The board voted to approve the insurance rates by voice vote and the motion carried.

Finally, trustees approved a resolution determining the necessity of issuing general obligation bonds and calling a special election. The resolution sets a proposed special-election date of Feb. 10. A board member summarized the work the district had done since the last election — surveys, community conversations and assessments — and said the plan aims to focus on required work while limiting the tax burden. Trustees voted to adopt the resolution calling the special election.
