Committee selects Sumter Local Government Consulting to run finance director search

Sumner County's Financial Management Committee voted Oct. 16 to hire Sumter Local Government Consulting to conduct the search for the county's next finance director.
The committee chair said the two finalists were close on price and capabilities but preferred Sumter Local Government Consulting for its Tennessee experience. "They have a consultant on staff that has actually worked in Tennessee government, with city of Brentwood," the chair said, noting the local network as a deciding factor.
Committee members discussed the relative merits of the two finalists. One member said SGR has a longer track record and a larger client list, but another said Sumter's local connections and a two-year guarantee 'to redo the search if necessary' made it the better choice for the county. The chair moved to accept proposal number two; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Committee members said cost proposals were marginally close and that the candidate search should be expedited. The committee also asked staff to help the mayor and interim personnel move forward with candidate interviews once the vendor begins work.
