The City of La Porte Board of Public Works and Safety on Oct. 21 approved routine payrolls and claims and authorized multiple project payments and administrative actions, including transfers of credit-card revenue, contract retainage payouts and approval to sign for a cybersecurity service.
The board voted, by voice, to approve two payroll runs ($544,951.10 and $559,693.76 as read into the record), civil city claims of $323,831.15, sewage claims (recorded in the meeting as approximately $130,007.98), and water claims (recorded in the meeting as approximately $186,003.71). The board also approved a schedule of enterprise fleet purchases for 2026 totaling $335,304.80.
Among project payments approved were: a final retainage payment of $68,151.98 to Reith Riley for the sewer extension from Genesis Drive to Hunter Woods; payment application No. 1 to HRP Construction for Soldiers Memorial Park wells for $386,734.50; and the payout of retention to close out Stone Lake Trail Phase 2 (amount not specified in the record).
The board also authorized an internal transfer of credit-card revenues from fund 6609 into the Civic non-reverting fund 5504 to address cash-flow needs, and approved a temporary $2,000 reassignment of credit-card spending authority from one parks cardholder to another so purchases for the Civic Auditorium can proceed.
Other approvals included waiving building-permit fees for the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 83 for an ADA ramp project, scheduling a special meeting to open bids for drainage and pedestrian improvements, and placing three Blue Petroleum invoices from the Ziegler Road fire (I27012, SI27013, SI27016) on a miscellaneous docket for payment while the city seeks reimbursement from responsible parties or insurers.
All motions in the minutes were carried by voice vote; the minutes record the routine “Aye. Aye. Motion passes” language but do not provide roll-call tallies.
The board adjourned after addressing department reports, including updates on body-worn cameras for the police department, new electric Ford Lightning trucks purchased with grant funds, and capital work by the water department.
