The North Brookfield Select Board voted Oct. 21 to transition the town’s water and sewer accounts to combined quarterly billing, with staff and the town’s billing vendor to phase in the change and hold a public hearing before the new schedule takes effect.
Board members and staff said the move will reduce administrative burdens on customers and align the town with the billing company’s standard processes. QDS, the vendor, advised the town it cannot flip directly to quarterly billing immediately; the vendor recommended a phased approach with time to reconcile account data and communicate the change to residents.
Officials described an expected quarterly billing cadence of July, October, January and April once the change is in place — with the first quarter’s consumption (April–June) billed in July. The board directed staff to work with Canon and QDS to confirm timelines, to schedule a public hearing on the change and to notify customers well in advance about how bills will be combined and how fixed fees will be apportioned.
