Board picks April Arbor Day site, sets planning next steps

The Wellington PROS Advisory Board approved Arbor Day at a town park on Saturday, April 25, during its October meeting and asked staff to coordinate volunteer crews, tree-donation partners and a morning planting schedule. The motion to set the location and date carried on a board voice vote.
Board and staff discussion focused on accessibility and on showcasing recent trail and underpass improvements to encourage use of the town’s trail system. Members proposed a format that could combine morning tree plantings with a later festival-like set of stations — music, food and short guided walks — to highlight park amenities and new trail maps.
Staff noted that many tree-donation crews prefer morning plantings, and that Arbor Day traditionally includes a planting demonstration. The board discussed doing events on both sides of town in future years to increase reach, with a possible underpass walking tour to connect east and west neighborhoods.
The board directed staff to coordinate the site plan, tree donations and volunteer scheduling and to return with a plan for permits, safety and soliciting business sponsorships.
