PROS board sets Kids to Park Day for May 16, 2026 at Wellington Community Park

The Wellington PROS Advisory Board voted to hold Kids to Park Day at Wellington Community Park on Saturday, May 16, 2026, and directed staff to begin planning, permitting and outreach. The motion to set the date and location was made and seconded during the board’s October meeting and the board approved the item by voice vote.

Board members and Parks staff emphasized space, accessibility and opportunities for partner booths and demonstrations at the town’s largest park. Parks staff recommended Wellington Community Park (WCP) because of its size, ADA-accessible equipment and room for vendors, youth-sports activities and a memorial gardens site that staff said could be highlighted during the event.

Staff told the board the department could coordinate activities such as inflatable yard games, batting cage access (subject to staffing), club demonstrations and a movie-in-the-park evening tied to Kids to Park Day. The board discussed start times that would avoid conflicts with early-morning fishing derbies and youth sports, and asked staff to plan a staggered schedule that could include an afternoon-evening program and vendors.

Board members asked staff to treat the approved location and date as the signal to prepare special-event permits, a safety plan and vendor outreach so details can be included in the 2026 recreation guide. Staff said it will bring back details and coordinate sponsorship outreach with the town’s sponsorship packet.

The board did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes; the motion passed on a voice vote. No amendments to the date or location were offered at the meeting.
