Council takes first reading of renewal with Empire District Electric for street-light service

City Clerk Laura read the ordinance title and summarized the agreement as a renewal of a long-standing contract under which the company maintains city street lights and responds to outage reports. Laura said the arrangement has been in place "perpetually since around 1945," and that a city staff negotiator (referred to as Damon’s associate Craig in the record) secured improved terms. Staff recommended approval on first reading.
Council asked no questions during the first-reading presentation. As with other first readings, the measure will return for additional consideration at a subsequent meeting.
