Speakers described expected traffic congestion affecting seniors and residents with mobility challenges, a lack of adequate on-site parking, potential noise and impact on property values.
Applicant Billy Summerlin and representatives said typical events would average 50–60 attendees and that parking on the lot and a direct connection to the bypass would mitigate impacts. Neighbors and faith leaders countered that prior events and the scale of activity created safety and accessibility problems for adjacent residents, including residents who use wheelchairs.
After public testimony, Councilor (mover) put forward a motion to deny the application "for the safety and welfare of our community." The motion carried unanimously.
Council records indicate the application was denied and the planning staff will record the denial in the city’s land-use and licensing records. The applicant may return with further documentation or an amended application in the future, but no new approvals were issued at the meeting.
