Page County engineer reports bridge failures and Snake Creek Bridge closure; board discusses Johnson Run maintenance agreement

County Engineer JD King briefed supervisors on roadwork and bridge issues across Page County, reporting that crews removed blades and hauled riprap to K Avenue to address slides into a creek, placed concrete on a wing post at Essex Bridge following a crash and scheduled guardrail replacement for Oct. 27. He said a field-entrance bridge north of Essex failed over the weekend after a vehicle drove through it; the property owner was contacted and not injured.
King told the board M63 (0 Avenue / Stan Road) will be closed at the Snake Creek Bridge at 190th Street Wednesday through Friday for abutment repairs. He described ongoing crack-filling on several county roads and routine winter preparations including tire checks and calcium-chloride tanks. King also noted a delayed crane crossing on C Avenue (M40/M32) rescheduled to Thursday because of wind.
Separately, supervisors discussed Johnson Run maintenance after a meeting between county staff and Shenandoah city administrators. The city will walk Johnson Run with county staff and obtain quotes for dead-tree removal and related work; supervisors said they will consider reimbursing the city or paying contractors directly from the drainage-levy fund, and they asked staff to draft a written agreement clarifying roles and reimbursement procedures for future Johnson Run work.
Ending: Staff will collect contractor quotes and city input and return to the board with proposed procedures and a cost estimate for Johnson Run maintenance; the Snake Creek Bridge closure was scheduled for the coming week.
