The Merrillville Plan Commission voted Oct. 25 to approve a final one-lot subdivision for Jenna Properties LLC that consolidates two parcels into one 16.43-acre lot for logistics use in an M-1 limited industrial district with an M-2 corridor overlay.
John Nerswicki of Contour Land Group represented the petitioner at the hearing and described the action as a final plat to combine two parcels. The plan was reviewed previously at a workshop and commissioners said the final plat reflects the workshop discussion. No major design changes were presented at the hearing.
During the public hearing, a nearby resident asked whether the logistics center would be a data center. The petitioner replied that the project is a trucking logistics and trailer-staging facility, not a data center. The petitioner estimated a potential parking/staging area of roughly 150 trailer parking spaces for staging and storage; the project narrative presented at the workshop described reconstruction of the entrance road and other improvements to support heavy vehicle traffic.
Commissioner Jeff Zweig moved for approval and a second was recorded; the commission took a roll-call vote and approved the final plat. Town staff confirmed required engineering work — including reconstruction of the entrance road from Mississippi to the project — is included in the approved drawings and that neighbors were notified per the advertised hearing requirements.
The petitioner may now proceed with recorded platting and site-preparation activities subject to standard engineering approvals and permit issuance.
