Ordinance committee backs two community events — a neighborhood cleanup walk and a YWCA hayride

Life, Health and Wealth community cleanup/walk: Organizer Amiel described a volunteer route beginning at Arlington School, proceeding along Exchange Street and ending at Howard Park, where volunteers will distribute family resources and safety kits. The Recreation Department had cleared Howard Park for the date requested; organizers were advised to keep volunteers off the travel lanes (police jurisdiction) and to be mindful of amplified music.
YWCA hayride (Oct. 24): Organizers described a repeat event that will use a flatbed tractor/trailer as a hayride platform running on paved paths around the Common (Common and Lawrence Street loop to Haverhill). The committee noted the event was filed on short notice and urged organizers to submit future applications at least two months in advance; the committee nevertheless forwarded the item to full council with a favorable recommendation.
Both items will be scheduled for the full council agenda for final authorization.
