She added that the civil violation does not add points to a driver’s license and "should not affect their insurance."
The mayor said the equipment will operate from 6:45 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. and only when school is in session. Signs have been placed on Okeechobee Boulevard and 160th Drive North advising drivers of the posted speed limits and warning that the school zone is photo‑enforced, Kane said.
Kane told the meeting that Florida enacted the program into law in 2023 and that revenue from the violations is regulated by state statute and used to offset the school guard crossing program and other public safety initiatives. "The goal is to make drivers more aware of the school zone and to encourage people to drive safely through our town," she said.
