Public Health reports large electronics and sharps collection at clean sweep; stakeholder meeting set for Oct. 30

Sawyer County Public Health told the Health and Human Services committee on Oct. 7 that this year’s clean sweep event saw a significant increase in participation and materials collected.
Public Health reported collecting 26,657 pounds of electronics at the event and noted a large increase in sharps collection compared with previous years; medication take‑back totals were similar to prior years. Staff said the event helped remove potentially hazardous waste from the community and that participants unloaded substantial quantities of old monitors and electronic equipment.
Health staff also reminded the committee of a second annual community stakeholder meeting set for Oct. 30 at LCO University from 8:30–11:30 a.m., part of the Healthier Together project and the community health improvement plan. The meeting will include public‑health partners and stakeholders and will focus on prevention and community planning.

Supporting details: Public Health said total funds raised from recent mental‑health walks (including LCO, Winter and Hayward) were $3,600 to be used for prevention and awareness work.
