Alisal Union School District staff presented the district’s annual review of the Title I parent and family involvement policy and asked parents to advise updates at school-level meetings.
The policy review matters because Title I funds are federal dollars targeted to schools with higher concentrations of low-income students, and the district said the funds are used for academic interventions, supplemental curriculum and parent engagement activities.
Diana García, director of student services, opened the item and described the review as an annual requirement: "Mi nombre es Diana García, soy la directora de servicios estudiantiles," she said at the start of the meeting. Dr. Fernández, who led the presentation, told parents: "La póliza de involucramiento de título 1 es una póliza que cada año la tenemos que repasar con ustedes y darles la información, y también actualizarla."
Presenters summarized how schools use Title I funds: small-group intervention staffing for reading and math, after-school tutoring, and supplemental curriculum materials. They said each Title I school must hold an annual Title I meeting that explains how much funding the school receives and how those funds are spent.
Dr. Fernández noted the district uses school-based coordinators to pass information to families and to solicit parent priorities for updates: "...es la oportunidad de que nos den información ustedes sobre qué más les gustaría ver, qué más información les gustaría recibir y cómo podemos seguir mejorando." Parents were invited to review the school-level Title I documentation and bring suggested edits to the advisory group.
Presenters said the district plans to continue using Title I funds to support parent outreach (including an annual parent conference in November) and to fund school coordinators who help convene parent meetings and translate information. Parents at the meeting were told copies of each school’s current Title I plan will be made available and that the advisory group will collect suggestions to inform the district update.
Less-critical meeting logistics and next steps: staff asked parents to review their individual school Title I documents at upcoming school meetings and to provide feedback for the districtwide update.
The district did not present a final revised policy at this meeting; staff said they will bring consolidated suggestions from parents and school teams to future meetings for formal adoption.
