Sawyer County Health and Human Services heard several administrative updates on Oct. 7 and approved amendments to its fee schedule.
Julia (administration staff) told the committee staff referrals are up across programs and supervisors are realigning workloads while staff train on a new electronic health record. The committee was told several long‑time employees recently retired or announced retirement, including Kathy Garvey and Carol Pearson; a CLTS position was posted to replace a retiring staff member and an administrative assistant was hired with a projected start date of Oct. 14.
The committee considered amendments to the fee schedule that included raising the OWI assessment fee from $2.50 to $300 and increasing the driver safety plan fee from $50 to $75. Members also added language to include adoption home‑study fees on the schedule, noting the department had not been performing those home studies since 2023 but might resume if capacity exists. Committee members moved and carried a motion to approve the amended fee schedule and forward it to the county board.
Why it matters: The fee schedule changes affect how the department charges for assessments and services and can influence service access and cost recovery. Staffing and EHR implementation affect service capacity; supervisors said they will phase training to avoid pulling all staff off duties at once.
Supporting details: supervisors reported not replacing one fiscal position and responding to increased referrals that began in July and August. The department plans to request additional staffing availability for January to manage EHR training. The committee was informed that appointment and recruitment processes are underway for CLTS and other roles.
