District reports progress on Station Ave playground, turf fields and staff professional development

District leaders gave updates on several facilities projects and recent district activities at the Oct. 20 school committee meeting.
Station Ave Elementary playground: Administrators said concrete footings and edging were in place and the poured‑in‑place surfacing would follow once weather and temperature conditions allowed (temperatures above about 40°F and no rain). Once surfacing is set the district will complete fencing and final cleanup.
Turf and athletic fields: Contractors are installing artificial turf and the district described staging work including seaming and infill placement. Engineers will test field drainage after installation; the district will complete track paving and fencing as final steps. Staff noted temporary staging impacts to grass and light cleanup work after equipment leaves the site.
Professional development and student events: The district reported participation in a Oct. professional development day that included training on the K‑12 SEL curriculum Wayfinder, language‑ambassador training on working with interpreters, targeted special education professional development, and curriculum training for HMH ELA adopters. District leaders also thanked community partners and volunteers who supported a life‑simulation financial‑literacy event for seniors and noted that PTOs provided staff meals during parent‑teacher conferences.
Superintendent and administrative staff said they will continue regular project updates and communicate timelines to the public; no new votes were taken on the projects at the meeting.
