The Humboldt Unified School District Governing Board voted to hire Brett Dahl as the district’s permanent superintendent and authorized Board President Wolcott to enter into contract negotiations with him.

Board members interviewed Brett Dahl in an executive session and returned to open session before taking the hiring vote. Dr. Dellinger moved to hire Dahl and to authorize the president to negotiate a contract; Mrs. Maison seconded the motion. The board voted in favor by voice and the motion carried.

The board opened the meeting by accepting the agenda without change. During general business, members moved into executive session “for discussion and the interview with Mr. Brett Dahl for the position of the district superintendent,” citing state open-meeting law. The board reported it had completed the interview when it returned to open session and took the hiring vote.

The board did not record individual roll-call votes in the public record; the motion passed on a unanimous voice vote from members present. At the end of the meeting, board members congratulated Dahl and said the president would proceed with contract negotiations. The board also announced its next regular meetings: Nov. 13, Dec. 11 and Jan. 8.

No members of the public submitted participation cards for this special meeting, and no other substantive agenda items were discussed in open session.
