The Onalaska Common Council voted unanimously Oct. 7 to accept a simplified rate case approved by the Public Service Commission (PSC) for the Onalaska Municipal Water Utility that applies a 3% rate increase factor.
Staff explained the PSC process and the next administrative steps: the PSC granted a rate-increase factor of 3% that staff will incorporate beginning Jan. 1, 2026; after council approval staff must publish notice in the La Crosse Tribune and send documentation to the PSC before the change is enacted administratively. Staff clarified that, because of billing cycles, customers will first see the change on their April 2026 water bill, which reflects prior-quarter charges.
Mayor Kim moved to accept the PSC simplified rate case; Sabrina seconded. The council voted unanimously to accept the rate case.
Staff said they had applied for the PSC simplified process earlier, and that the municipal utility would implement the PSC-approved increase consistent with state rules once the council approved and required notices were published.
