Loop It Up leaders describe Parent University as a community peacebuilding effort

Molly Lieberman, a "Champion for youth" with Loop It Up, and community advocate Michael O'Neil described Parent University as an effort to teach conflict-resolution skills to young people and their families and to build community spaces for peaceful problem-solving.
"It's really meaningful to me because we work so hard, to just help young people as well as ourselves learn better skills for solving problems and expressing challenges. Everybody has conflicts and challenges and things things that are hard, but we're really focused on how do we solve those problems in ways that are not more hurtful," Lieberman said.
"At its root, Parent University seeks to create peace," O'Neil said. He added that much of his work "is driven by establishing spaces for peace," calling community gatherings "one of the best" ways to convene people to talk about peace.
Lieberman said the program gathers partners in public spaces to promote conflict resolution and healthy ways to solve problems. "And the park is filled with partners that really care about our community and promoting peace and conflict resolution and just healthy ways to solve problems, have conversations, and enjoy being together," she said.
Both speakers closed by expressing a hope the work would continue. O'Neil said, "And I just hope we continue this far into the future."
