OKCPS board conducts quarterly self-evaluation workshop, moves evaluation to next consent agenda and holds executive session on superintendent evaluation

Oklahoma City Public Schools board members met Oct. 20 for a training-focused quarterly self-evaluation led by coaches from the Council of Great City Schools and agreed to place the completed self-evaluation on the next meeting’s consent agenda.

The session included a coaches’ review of the board’s governance rubric, a presentation of time-use analysis showing the board spent about 5% of its recent meeting time on monitoring and roughly 47% on training, and a unanimous 7-0 vote to enter executive session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation and employment. The board returned to open session at 8:40 p.m.; the executive-session compliance statement said no action was taken during the closed session.

The coaches — identified in the meeting as Carol and AJ of the Council of Great City Schools — framed the self-evaluation as a quarterly, continuous-improvement tool designed to shift board focus toward student outcomes and to align board time use with strategic goals.
