District presents 10‑year life safety reports; $696,000 estimate over five years, major exterior repair flagged at Rosette

Tammy Carson (Director of Facilities) and Scott Johnson (district architect) presented the district’s required 10‑year life safety reports for all school buildings. Carson explained the state requires each building be inspected every 10 years and violations be classified as Priority A (to be addressed within one year) or Priority B (within five years).
Scott Johnson said the district’s facilities are generally well maintained and that many buildings have few violations compared with other districts. He identified common items such as required door closures and latching fire/smoke doors, which must be corrected to comply with updated fire code enforcement. Johnson emphasized most violations were small items and that the district’s maintenance staff could handle many corrections in‑house.
Carson said the total estimated fiscal impact in the reports was about $696,000 over five years; the largest single new item identified that was not already on the district’s plan was exterior stucco replacement at Clint Rosette Middle School, estimated at $300,000. Carson said she will revise the five‑year project plan to incorporate these items and noted in‑house labor could reduce outside contractor estimates for some items.
The board indicated consensus to bring the life safety reports back for future action and planning; no immediate appropriation was approved at the meeting.
