The Perkins City Commission on Oct. 14 approved purchases of new playground equipment for Dixon Park and Peters Park through Sourcewell cooperative purchasing, authorizing lease-purchase funding for both installations.
City staff said the existing playground equipment has been in place for many years and parts are no longer available. The contract with the chosen vendor includes removal of old equipment, installation of new equipment, 65 yards of mulch per playground, fencing during construction, and disposal of the old structures. Staff said the vendor provides a limited warranty on aluminum uprights and stands behind the product.
The commission approved purchase and financing via lease-purchase funds. The motion recorded at the meeting specified the amounts as $66,484.42 for Dixon Park and $63,493.79 for Peters Park. Staff said there is currently enough money in the lease-purchase fund to pay for at least one playground outright and that annual payments will be made through Hank County Bank with a yearly lump-sum payment option described in the financing.
Officials said Peters Park receives heavier use and therefore received the larger play structure. Staff also said the contractor will change the perimeter at Peters Park to comply with ADA guidance (removing sand and extending mulch to the play area), and that the company would finish installation before the start of the new year if scheduling permits.
The commission approved the purchases by recorded vote. Staff will schedule installation with the vendor and return any contract documents to the commission as required by procurement rules.
