Board approves first reading of policy updates; amends equipment/property language

Cumberland County's school board approved multiple policies on first reading during the Oct. 28 meeting and voted to amend one provision to clarify ownership of items placed in school buildings or on school property.

A board member raised a question about policy 3.3 (equipment and supplies management) and suggested the language be expanded so that items placed "in school buildings or on school property" become district property; another board member moved to amend the language to include "on school property." The motion to amend was approved, and the group voted to approve the policies on first reading.

The board treated the action as a first reading; final adoption would occur on the scheduled second reading if no further changes are proposed.
