Bristol Township trustees and the local historical society asked commissioners to help restore a Civil War monument in Bristol Center that the trustees and the historical society said is in disrepair.
Commissioners said the memorial is one of the oldest in Ohio and was described in the meeting as the second-oldest Civil War monument in the country. Trustees asked for $12,000 to fund restoration work. Commissioners said they would check whether the township’s ARPA allocation or other county ARPA projects could be adjusted to cover the requested amount and asked staff to identify a specific county project that could be reduced to free funds for the monument.
No formal award or fund transfer was approved at the meeting. Staff said they would review ARPA project accounting and report back to the board.
