Residents praise Cocoa Citizens Academy at city meeting

"Each session covers a different, aspect or department in the city government to give the participant an idea of what it takes to actually run the city behind the scenes," said Commenter 2, a Cocoa resident. Commenter 3 added, "So some of the things that we got to see so far was like the Dyer Water Plant. We also got to see public works and fleet. And we learned about finance, which is something you you won't drive by and see. You have to actually go in and see."
Several speakers emphasized the program's role in building relationships between residents and department heads. "I love the fact that I get to talk with the department heads and ask my questions just so that I can get a better, deeper understanding of what is going on," Commenter 3 said, adding the program helps residents understand both current operations and future plans for the city.
Commenters framed the academy as an engagement tool for residents and local business owners. "It's a way for the community partners and the community leaders and the citizens to all interact together and engage," said Commenter 4, a Cocoa resident. Multiple speakers encouraged others to enroll, saying the program helps people identify resources and opportunities for involvement in city government.
