Flying Creek Nature Preserve, courts and park upgrades among Fairhope recreation projects for 2025

Mayor Sherry Sullivan described a suite of park and recreation projects the city expects to advance in 2025, highlighting the first phase of the Flying Creek Nature Preserve and upgrades to courts, fields and trails.
Sullivan said the first phase of Flying Creek Nature Preserve should open late summer and will include trails, a tunnel already completed, the John Martin Nature Center, birding blinds, outdoor classrooms and restroom facilities. She said phase two on the south side will add biking and hiking trails. The mayor identified Justin at the event as a staff contact for Flying Creek.
Other recreation projects she listed include new pickleball and tennis courts at the Mike Ford Tennis Center, LED lighting upgrades at WC Majors Field, a new press box and restroom/concession facility at Majors Field, structural repairs to the municipal pool (about $1,000,000 in repairs), pavilion and walkway work at the Manly Soccer Complex, and green renovations at Quail Creek (9 holes to be redone in May and 9 holes next year).
Sullivan said the city conducted a recreation master-plan public meeting and 500 community survey responses informed planning for the recreation property at County Roads 13 and 32. She framed these investments as quality-of-life improvements that complement broader capital work around the city.
