Committee reviews new contract to compile foster-care medical records for adoption packets

The ALC Review Subcommittee reviewed a new original contract proposed by the Department of Human Services Division of Children and Family Services to assist with compiling foster-care and adoption disclosure packets.
Tiffany Wright, director of the division, said the contract—now under review—will help DCFS assemble medical records and related documentation for children who have been in foster care longer than 30 days and will begin the packet process earlier, at adjudication, to accelerate permanency and adoption timelines. Wright said the effort is intended to reduce delays in adoption by preparing records earlier in a child's case and noted the work had been previously provided under a different contract within DHS.
Representative Bentley asked for details that prompted the agency to explain the packets contain the child's lifetime medical records and the agency expects the vendor to assist in compiling those records so that adoption processes can move more quickly. The committee took the item under review as part of the D in-state contracts packet; no additional roll-call or contract award was recorded on the transcript during the meeting.
