Sweetwater council approves change orders for Newman Park trail and pedestrian bridge projects, lowering contract costs

The Sweetwater City Council on Aug. 12 approved change orders for two Newman Park projects that reduce the overall contract costs by removing certain demolition and hydro-seating items from the original bid scopes.
Public works staff reported that the original bid for the Newman Park walking trail included hydro seating and demolition of a stone arch bridge; after making Americans with Disabilities Act repairs to the stone bridge and removing hydro seating, the change order decreases the walking-trail cost by $36,450. For the Newman Park pedestrian-bridge project, the demolition and replacement of a stone arch bridge were removed from the scope, lowering the contract by $72,542 and producing a revised contract price of approximately $1,564,280.
