Canby council and urban renewal agency approve appointments, move fuel-station contract to second reading and table IT contract

Canby’s Urban Renewal Agency and City Council recorded several routine approvals and a handful of formal decisions during meetings on Jan. 22, 2025, including reappointing leadership at the URA, approving consent items and advancing a Public Works fuel-station contract to a second reading at council.

The Urban Renewal Agency re-appointed Agency Chair Hensley and named Brian Hudson vice chair by unanimous voice votes. The URA also approved its consent agenda, including the minutes of the Sept. 4, 2024 meeting and the appointment of Sean Barwick (term corrected to end Sept. 30, 2027), by a 6-0 vote.

At the city council meeting later that night, councilors voted to advance Ordinance 1639 — a contract award to build a new Public Works fuel-card lock station — to a second reading on Feb. 5, 2025. The low bid was $1,135,210; councilors said it came in well under the budgeted amount. Council also voted to table Ordinance 1640, a proposed contract for specialized IT services for the police department, instructing staff and the city attorney to seek alternatives and legal review before moving forward. Finally, the council adopted Resolution 1423 to authorize municipal sewer service extension to a failing septic property at 2542 SE 13th Ave; that resolution passed unanimously.
