The discussion, led at the start by the meeting chair, focused on a shortlist of themes proposed by commissioners and residents — geology and natural history; mining and industrial history; tribal and Indigenous connections; continuity of the Clarkdale community (past and present); and the town’s more recent recreation-based economy — plus practical issues such as marker siting, material lifespan and pedestrian access.
The themes matter because the panels are intended both to guide visitors and to direct people to deeper resources: participants repeatedly endorsed using QR codes or “digital deep dives” to allow short onsite text and link to longer oral histories, photos and museum collections online.
