The Culpeper Town Council on March 11 adopted a resolution designating August 2025 as Culpeper Lafayette Days to honor General Lafayette's 1825 visit to the town and to support educational activities recalling the Revolutionary War era.
Town staff read a resolution noting Lafayette's stop in Culpeper on Aug. 22, 1825, including a military reception at Greenwood and subsequent events at the courthouse and a town ball at Bells Tavern. The resolution cites participating local organizations and institutions, including the Museum of Culpeper History, Culpeper County Public Schools, Culpeper Minutemen Incorporated, Culpeper Renaissance Inc., and the Culpeper Department of Tourism and Economic Development, and calls for coordinated efforts to educate the public about Lafayette's visit and the principles of liberty and equality.
Council took the resolution up without extended discussion and moved to adopt it. A roll call was taken; the clerk recorded votes in support during the roll call sequence as part of the record and the resolution was adopted that evening.
