The Planning and Zoning Commission voted March 19 to issue a favorable report under Connecticut General Statutes section 8-24 on a city council referral about the potential sale or lease of city-owned property at 355 Midget Avenue, previously used as Board of Education offices.
City planner Jeremy Leifert read the referral and staff recommendation to the commission, noting the parcel is in the R-6 residential zone and that the property’s current office use is a conforming use by special exception. "The intention for this property is for a potential future sale or other disposition of the property," Leifert said, quoting the city council minutes. He recommended a favorable report to comply with CGS 8-24 and to return the property to the grand list if the Board of Education administration offices are relocated to the new high school building.
Commission members discussed the administrative transfer of the building to the city and possible future reuse — including residential conversion — but emphasized that any change in use would require its own review under the zoning regulations. The commission’s favorable report will be forwarded to city council as the statutorily required advisory opinion.
