Jared Tatro, deputy division manager for the Legislative Services Office Budget and Policy Analysis Division, told the committee the language change is required so the State Department of Education knows the exact dollar amount to distribute. "The motion and the correction before you will say to provide $21,902 in that maintenance bill for public schools," Tatro said.
Tatro said the amount reflects a per‑support‑unit calculation tied to the 1.55 staff allowance and noted the number arose from rounding the underlying calculation. Committee leadership requested and received unanimous consent to include the corrected dollar amount in the bill; no objections were recorded on the record.
The correction is technical rather than a policy change: it specifies the dollar figure used for distribution rather than altering the overall funding level for health insurance in the maintenance bill. The committee did not debate alternate amounts during the brief action; staff answered technical questions before the unanimous‑consent motion was approved.
The committee will carry the corrected language forward in the program maintenance bill so the Department of Education can apply the per‑support‑unit distribution.
