House Bill 467, the judicial appropriations bill, was reported favorably by the Senate Finance Committee following presentation by Chief Justice Waimer and Justice Wolf.
Chief Justice Waimer told the committee the judiciary appreciated appropriations for CASA, drug courts, specialty courts and the family in need of services (FINS) program and said capital improvements would enhance safety for the public, court employees and visiting student groups. The committee considered amendment set 25‑09, which included language authorizing courts to pay judges’ compensation on a monthly basis from judicial reserves and corrected section numbers in the bill.
Senator Presley moved to adopt amendment 25‑09 and to report the bill as amended; the motion was adopted with no objection recorded on the transcript. The judiciary noted additional requests for security and information technology that the committee said would be considered as part of the funds bill and related instruments scheduled for further hearings.
The committee allowed staff to make technical corrections as part of the motion and reported HB 467 favorably to the Senate.
