LACONIA, N.H. — The Laconia School Board on May 20 heard a presentation from the Laconia High School Special Education Transition Program describing two years of in‑school vocational training, community placements and student life-skills activities.
The program, which the district moved from contracted services into an in‑house model two years ago, connects adult students with local businesses and community organizations to build vocational skills, daily living routines and social supports, the presenters said.
Program lead Dornit Olsen, described in the meeting as the special education teacher in charge, said she secured approvals through the state Department of Labor and developed partnerships with local employers.…
