Paul Amador, the governor’s nominee for reappointment to the Idaho Charter School Commission, appeared before the Senate Education Committee to introduce himself and describe his background in education and public service.
Amador said he has served on the Charter School Commission for 16 months and described the commission’s recent work implementing significant changes from last year’s charter school legislation. He told the committee the commission has been focused on implementing statutory changes to oversight and said the commission would meet the following day to continue that work.
“...it has been a busy 16 months,” Amador said, describing the implementation focus and the commission’s role as a potential laboratory for innovation in education. He also reflected on the importance of teachers and inspiration for students in remarks referencing a Challenger memorial near the Department of Education building.
Senator Ward Engelking thanked Amador for his willingness to serve. The committee did not take a vote on the reappointment during the session; the chair said the committee would take a vote at the next meeting.
