House committee introduces bill to clarify unclaimed property notification timing

Representative Alfieri told the House State Affairs Committee that RS 32227 makes targeted edits to Idaho’s unclaimed property statutes to “clean up some of the language, specifically notification time.”
The measure, described by Alfieri as a “fairly simple” technical revision, would clarify when holders must notify owners about unclaimed property. Alfieri asked the committee for support in moving the draft forward; there was no substantive debate and Representative Scott moved to introduce the RS. The committee approved the introduction by voice vote.
The draft points the committee to a change on page 3, lines 38 onward related to the notification period. No fiscal estimates, implementation schedule, or changes to enforcement or penalties were discussed during the introduction. The RS was placed on the committee’s list for further consideration.
The committee also briefly rescheduled House Bill 98 for a future hearing, and the chair noted the panel would consider three RS items at this meeting, of which RS 32227 was the first introduced.
The RS will proceed to the formal introduction and, if printed, return for a full hearing where members may examine the specific statutory text and any implementation implications.
