Committee advances bill adding hospitals to student-athlete advisory participation, names bill for DJ Price Jr.

NASHVILLE — The House Education Committee voted unanimously to advance House Bill 1113 after the sponsor amended the bill to expand participation to hospitals and to name the bill in honor of Dennis ‘‘DJ’’ Price Jr.
Representative Hardaway said the amendment rewrote the bill to add participation from children’s hospitals in each grand division and a member of a governing organization for student athletes. The sponsor thanked Le Bonheur and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for their input.
The committee adopted the friendly amendment and recorded 18 ayes and 0 nays; the bill moves to finance.
What’s next: HB 1113 moves to the Finance calendar where any fiscal attachments will be reviewed.
