Lawmakers introduce RS to affirm that Medicaid cannot narrow legislatively authorized provider scope

Representative Jordan Redmond (District 3, Kootenai County) presented RS32089 to the committee, saying the bill would clarify that Medicaid cannot limit the practice authority granted by the legislature and licensing boards.
"Any service that's covered through Medicaid can be provided by any legislatively authorized provider who completes the Medicaid provider agreement," Redmond said, framing the RS as an effort to return authority to the legislature and licensing boards rather than allow department or federal bureaucratic restrictions.
He said recent departmental audits and interpretations had led to confusion about provider authority and access to care, and the RS would affirm statutory intent as previously passed by the committee and legislature.
Representative Kaler moved to introduce RS32089; Representative Wheeler stated support for introduction and asked for examples at the full hearing. The committee adopted the motion by voice vote and RS32089 was introduced. The sponsor said he would bring more examples and evidence at a subsequent hearing.
