Measure to add reporting requirements for 340B-covered entities introduced

Representative Jordan Redmond (District 3) introduced RS 32135, a bill that would add an annual reporting requirement for entities participating in the federal 340B drug-pricing program. Under Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act, participating manufacturers sell outpatient drugs at discounted rates to qualifying health-care organizations; RS 32135 would require covered entities to report annually to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, the attorney general and the state comptroller.
"A lot of the feedback I had in committee...was because there wasn't a belief that there was much transparency in this large $66,000,000,000 federal program," Redmond said, explaining the goal of increasing state-level transparency.
Representative Wheeler asked whether the fiscal note included input from the comptroller's office; Redmond said he had not spoken with the comptroller but that Health and Welfare would be able to receive the data. The committee voted to introduce RS 32135 for a hearing.
